The seventh-grade class is building target areas for a PE activity. The bases for the game will be in a circular shape. The diameter of each circle is 3 feet. Approximately, how many square feet of the turf needs to be painted for a base circle? Use 3.14 for π and round your answer to the nearest tenth. 7.1 square feet 9.4 square feet 18.8 square feet 28.3 square feet

If the diameter is 3 feet, then the radius is 1.5 feet. Area of a circle = pi * radius squared or [tex]A = \pi r^{2} [/tex]

A = pi * (1.5)²
A = pi * 2.25
A = 3.14 * 2.25
A = 7.065 ≈ 7.1

7.1 feet² is your answer.
You are solving for the area of circular shape.

Let area = A
Let π= 3.14
Let radius = 1.5

The formula is as followed, you fill in the blanks:

[tex]A= \pi r^2 \\ (Area = 3.14 * radius^2 [/tex]

The answer exact answer is 7.07, but if you were to round it, because you want an approximate answer it would be 7.1 square feet.

Your answer from your choices given is bolded, and the work is in the picture:

- 7.1 square feet
- 9.4 square feet
- 18.8 square feet
- 28.3 square feet
