The difference quotient is [tex]\frac{ f(x+h) - f(x)}{h}[/tex]

So

[tex]\frac{3-(x+h)^2-(3-x^2)}{h}\\\\\frac{3-x^2-2xh-h^2 - 3 + x^2}{h}\\ \\\frac{-(h^2+2xh)}{h}\\ -h-2x[/tex]

-h-2x is the difference quotient.
