The characteristics of prokaryotes include: single-celled structure and they have flagella for movement. Membrane-bound organelles such as mitochondria, chloroplast, nucleus and etc. are absent in prokaryotes. Examples of organisms that are considered as prokaryotes are bacteria and algae.
