After an unsuccessful attempt to learn piano playing, she follows the talent show ensues and her mother signs her up out of pride towards her friend Lindo Jong, whose daughter is a prodigy chess player. Jing Mei terribly plays one song in the hope of embarrassing her mother in front of the audience. The mother does not react and asks how the piano classes are progressing. The mother realizes that the daughter wants to give up and compels her to go, and of that because her daughter is angry, declares that, she wished she was not even born, and that she would love to be dead. This predisposes the culmination of discord and conflict due to the unrealistic expectation of the mother.
