A. The main goal was to try to correct the Southern states' politics, economic, and social. The Reconstruction policies tried to give rights to the former slaves in the South with the rectification of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments.

B. Reconstruction often fails to protect the African American freed slaves in the South.  Southern Whites stopped them from voting, which threatened their political rights often led to discrimination. The South issued sets of Black Codes called Jim Crow Laws to separate African Americans from the whites.
