The Louisiana territory had a vital port for ships to land at. Also there was a lot of land there which could be used for crops and many other things.
When he is young he is thoughtless about the other, he only wants glory,
but when he is a great ruler he is aware more about the people and
cares about their safety.
He becomes mre mature throughout the poem.
