1/2 x + 2 = x - 2

Multiply both sides by 2

2 × ( 1/2 x + 2 ) = 2 × ( x - 2 )

x + 4 = 2x - 4

Add both sides 4

x + 4 + 4 = 2x - 4 + 4

x + 8 = 2x

Subtract both sides x

x - x + 8 = 2x - x

x = 8
