remember, you can do ANYTHING to an equation as long as you do it to both sides

x+x+2+2x=-2
regropu to add x's
1x+1x+2x+2=-2
4x+2=-2
minus 2 from both sides
4x+2-2=-2-2
4x+0=-4
4x=-4
divide both sides by 4
4x/4=-4/4
(4/4)x=-1
1x=-1
x=-1
