Animals that live on the sea floor are called benthos and most of these animals lack backbone and are hence called invertebrates. Benthic invertebrates are sea anemones, sponges, corals, sea stars, sea urchins, worms, crabs and others.
Because of the depths, benthic zone is characterized by low sunlight and low temperatures and this attributes to little life and biodiversity.
