In 1948 United Nations approved a document called The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) for an array of rights to be enjoyed by people all over, including freedom of speech and religion, as well as social and economic rights.
It is a very major document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives with distinct legal and cultural backgrounds from all over the world, the Declaration was revealed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 by General Assembly resolution 217A(III) as a common level of achievement for all peoples and all nations.
It lays out, for the first time, for fundamental human rights to be universally protected. It was a consequence of the experience of the second world war. The United Nations has defined a wide range of internationally accepted rights, including civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.
