The Nonintercourse Act of 1809 replaced the Embargo Act of 1807. This Act aims to prohibit the shipping lines heading to French and British ports and lift all other embargoes. The underlying purpose is to put pressure on the economy of Britain and France. No importation has been made under these countries. Products that are usually imported to this countries are hence produced locally to compensate for the demand.
