The executive branch has the power to veto bills that are passed by the legislative branch (the House of Representatives and the Senate).

If the legislative branch passes a bill, then the president still has the power to veto it. This way the executive branch limits the presidents power. However, the Congress can limit the power to veto a bill only if two - thirds of both -the Senate and House of Representative vote to override it.
