substitute this into 2x+4y=20
2x+4(1/2-1/4x)=20
2x+2-x=20

2x-x=18
1x=18
x=18
substitute x in the equation
2(18)+8y=4
36 + 8y=4
-36 -36

8y=-32
---- ------
8 8
y= -4
x= 18
