What is the purpose of Douglass's speech?
to show how far America has come in eliminating slavery and promoting women's rights
to exemplify the need for including enslaved people in Fourth of July celebrations
to demonstrate the hypocrisy of celebrating the Fourth of July when people are enslaved
to protest supporting the forefathers of the country for holding people enslaved

The speech of Frederick Douglass, "The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro., was meant to demonstrate the hypocrisy of celebrating the Fourth of July when people are enslaved.  He did not see any reason why the Black people would celebrate the independence of America from Britain when they (the Black People) themselves were still slaves to America.
